The local businesses you can support during COVID – 19

Here at the Fatima Saib blog, I am extremely passionate about sharing the best in health and wellness in South Africa. However, since the recent development of the COVID – 19 virus, I have decided to put together a list of local stores that can be supported in an effort to ‘flatten the curve’. If there are any small businesses offering speciality products or groceries that are not on my list, then please feel free to send me an email at so that I can add it below.

Cakes and baked goods

Freckles and French Toast – From donuts and cakes to mini quiches, Freckles and French Toast is offering delivery during the week and collection on the weekend. Her products are delicious, look incredible and made with love. If you’re going to spoil yourself during this time, then make it a box of her assorted mini-donuts. You can email her here:

Saib’s Kitchen – My own little baking and cooking start-up which I haven’t had a chance to share about on the blog yet. I make (a really good) vegan cake along with other cakes such as orange, coconut and lemon loaves. I also sell cinnamon rolls and have recently started making homemade paneer. Email me at or DM me on Instagram if you would like to order.

Groceries, home and food

Buy Fresh – From the farm to the plate, Buy Fresh aims to connect customers with the highest quality, locally sourced, fresh produce and food products. At the click of a button, they will get to work sourcing the freshest food and ingredients from their local suppliers. They also offer free delivery for orders over R1000.

Atlas Trading -This popular spice shop in Cape Town is a firm favorite for many. They sell kitchen essentials such as baking goods, beans, salt and spices to name just a few. In their effort to flatten the curve, they are offering collection of products which they will have ready 2 days after you order. You can pay by EFT or card. Email for more information.

OZC Market – One of the best fresh food and produce markets in Cape Town has closed down in their bid to flatten the curve. However, they have just launched an online site where you will be able to purchase from their vendors. You can buy bundles of fruit and veg and scale it to suit the number of people in your household. While they do not offer delivery, you can pay online and then collect your produce from the market on a Saturday.

One Cart – If there is something you really need at the bigger, popular supermarkets but don’t want to risk going out, then I highly suggest making use of the forward-thinking service offered by One Cart. For just R55 and a small service fee, you can do your online shopping at stores such as Pick ‘n Pay, Clicks, Dis-Chem and Food Lovers Market all in one shop! I really like that they have an app which you can buy from and create shopping lists so that you never forget about anything you might need.

Shop Zero – If you follow me on social media, then you’ll already know that Shop Zero is my favorite zero-waste store in Cape Town. Owned by the warm and lovely Janneke, the shop offers a wide range of products ranging from beauty and homeware to food and plants!

House of Juice – Based in Maitland, Cape Town, House of Juice is open for delivery for all of their customers. You can call them on 0215101961 to place an order. They are open on Mondays to Fridays from 6am – noon. They make top-quality fresh juices as well as cold-pressed vegetable juices.

SweepSouth – Many are familiar with their cleaning services but, they have also started selling cleaning products on the site and have great discount codes and offers everyday. I recommend signing up to the newsletter and seeing what they have to offer.

NOMU – One of the most delicious brands, NOMU offers everything you need in baking essentials. They also have a great selection of spices, hot chocolates and stock which are bound to come in handy during this time. Their range of Sweetly products are a favorite in my home and help you reduce sugar in your baking. They offer free delivery for products over R650

The Online Pantry – Based in JHB, this nifty online store sells spices, legumes and cooking oils. They have an array of kitchen essentials and offer delivery. For enquiries, you can contact them directly at or 087 802 6216.

Meat and chicken

For top-quality, halaal meat, Good Hope on the Go is a top choice. You can choose from a wide selection of chicken, meats, frozen savories and even some groceries that are delivered straight to your door. Their prices are great and service is outstanding.

Mitchell’s Moslem Butchery – Another excellent halaal butchery offering delivery in Cape Town. You might already be familiar with their products as a selection of them are sold in Fresh-Stop stores. They are delivering in Rylands, Pinelands, Rondebosch, Penlyn and surrounding areas. You can Whatsapp them on 082 447 7044 or 082 747 2764. Delivery takes 48 hours and payment is made with card or cash on delivery. You can visit them on Facebook here.

Health, wellness and beauty

GlamIt – No need to run out to the shops for your shampoo this month, This local, online store offers a wide range of internationally loved paraben free, sulphate free and cruelty free hair care products including Balmain, BioSilk and my favorite, CHI Haircare. Their products last for months and they offer delivery!

Yoga with Adrienne  – I have been following her for years and thoroughly enjoy her videos. She is on YouTube and often does 30 day challenges which are all really great. She provides so much calm to me during this time. (NOTE: Not Local)

Dr Ranjan Chatterjee – I wasn’t too sure if this should go to the “mind” part but going to be posting it here in the ‘body’ section since he offers such great insight about the body and how you can look after yourself with regard to food, exercise, sleep and stress.
