The dread of suffering with a migraine or headache is for me, right up there with toothache and hay fever. Three things I simply cannot handle yet always seem to get. Sometimes, the pain of a migraine gets so intense that I often wish I could rather exchange it for a fibromyalgia flare up which, if you have any idea as to how intense that is you can understand just how much I hate getting a migraine. So, for today’s post, in collaboration with Health Renewal, I will be sharing all the facts you need to know about migraine headaches as well as some tips to ease up the pain that will hopefully improve your quality of life.
It should come as no surprise to the majority of you that for the past seven years, I have been suffering with a musculoskeletal disorder called Fibromyalgia which, if I have to sum it all up, means that I experience constant discomfort and pain all over my body.
It should come as no surprise that I am a big advocate for holistic healing. After suffering with a chronic disorder for a good few years and then realising that the pain medication I was being pumped with did more harm than good, I decided to take things into my own hands and visit a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Doctor at the Tibb Centre and have never looked back.
Stress, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia… these are signs from our bodies that we need to slow down and smell the roses which, more often than not, we choose to ignore. I once read a quote that said ‘health is a crown worn by the healthy that only the sick can see’ and it is because of this quote that I was inspired to start my Wellness Series that have been in plan for the past few months. In this exciting series of posts, you can expect to learn some expert fitness tips, find my favourite workouts and healthy recipes and learn some more about natural medicine and holistic healing all while learning to listen to your body and put yourself first.
Last week I suffered with the worst back pain I had in ages which started after I spent a few nights hunched over in bed studying. Having a musculoskeletal disorder didn’t make things any easier and so, when it was slowly creeping over onto the 2-week mark of excruciating pain, I popped in at Sorbet Belvedere for a detoxing ‘Knock Your Tox Off’ massage (R440) with my therapist Tasneem.
