A little while ago I was told that it would be good for my body to try and cut down on actual milk which I have been doing for about 2 weeks now seeing that I have a pretty great reason to drink myself silly on this nutty substitute!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The first week I was absolutely dreading making almond milk myself and instead, made my whole family aware of the fact that if they see a particular brand of almond milk in stores, they needed to buy it for me. I have made the milk myself but seem to remember it being more messy than anything else. Anyway, I finally found the milk that everyone was raving about, bought it and fell in love with the taste, only to realize that it contained a ridiculous 2% of almond&#8217;s per litre and that the rest of the ingredients was made up of oils&#8230; how gross is that?<\/p>\n<p>I then took it upon myself to get my hands dirty and whip up a batch of my own which came out absolutely delicious and creamy and lasted a good four days in the fridge. Below is my super easy recipe and two of my favorites ways that you can drink this yummy milk alternative.<\/p>\n<p>You will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a fine strainer or a muslin cloth (or nut bag)<\/li>\n<li>a blender<\/li>\n<li>1 cup of almonds<\/li>\n<li>3-4 cups of water<\/li>\n<li>a bowl<\/li>\n<li>a glass jug<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Optional:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3-5 medjool dates<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbsp vanilla extract or the seeds of one pod<\/li>\n<li>honey or any other sweetener<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So first off you start by soaking your almonds for about 20 hours in water. After it has been soaked, wash them and put them into your blender and add about 3-4 cups of water (this depends on how creamy you want your milk). If you are adding any dates for a sweeter taste or your vanilla extract, then add them now- (I only added vanilla to mine).<\/p>\n<p>Blend for about 5 minutes until it is creamy and the almonds are fine. This duration however depends on your blender so I am assuming that you know how powerful yours is and how long it should take.<\/p>\n<p>Get your muslin cloth or sieve and pour the milk though it a little bit at a time in the bowl. If you are using a cloth then squeeze out the excess with your hands to ensure that you don&#8217;t waste anything. Set the pulp aside and continue until all the milk is used up. Before you pour it into your jug, just let the milk go through a sieve one more time to ensure that all the pulp is out of it.<\/p>\n<p>Store it in the fridge and enjoy!
