Home-cleaning favorites with Chux and Calli and Co

Oh how the times have changed. From being predominantly about fashion and beauty to now writing about homeware and wellness, this blog has been my space of change and growth which I hope you are all enjoying. Since moving into my own space nearly a year ago, I have made it my mission to invest in quality cleaning products that are value for money, last for ages and, most importantly, are good for the environment. I recently stumbled upon a brand based in KZN called Calli and Co, the brain-child of two friends who wanted to create cleaning products that were safe for the environment and everyone who used them.

Calli and Co quickly ticked all my ‘first-impression’ boxes which were:

  1. No single-use plastic
  2. Biodegradable products
  3. Stylish and looks great at the sink or in your cupboard
  4. Sold in reusable glass bottles and, most importantly,
  5. LOCALLY MADE!

I have been using the products for a few months now and still have quite a bit left. What I really enjoy about them is that you need the smallest amount to clean or freshen up your space.

Their Floor and Tile Cleaner is lasting me longer than any other brand I have tried. Made with rosemary, cloves, lemon and lavender, the smell can get quite overpowering (if you suffer from allergies) but happily enough, you only need 30ml per 5 litres of water! I find that it works really well (especially in the kitchen as I make a constant mess on the floor) and leaves my tiles gleaming.

I also really enjoyed using the Mould Buster in my bathroom as it got rid of stubborn black marks and scum on the taps. It has an oxygen byproduct and works to kill the mould and spores at the root. You only need to leave it on the affected area for about 5 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

The two products that have a permanent home on my kitchen counter are the Everyday Cleaner and the Super Cleaner. While both seem mild in the formulation, they work so well at removing grease and disinfecting countertops. The Everyday Cleaner is safe to use on fruit, Tupperware, counter and toys and, what I love is that you can immediately start using your counter or equipment after cleaning it with this product. The Super Cleaner, however, is more of an eco-friendly bleach that can be used in the kitchen, shower and even septic tanks.

The brand on my list that seems to be killing it in the cleaning industry is Chux! Offering an extensive range of cleaning products, Chux really has thought of everything. I have tried and loved many of their items and seen some really great results.

The Chux Original Superwipes have taken over my home. Seriously. I use these wipes to clean up everything. Each pack comes with 10 reusable wipes which are made from special open weave cloth. I got about 10 or more uses from each wipe and even cut them in half to use them for longer.

Plus, I use them in food preparation and when making paneer, labneh and even to line my nut milk bags!

My favorite product in the range is definitely the Magic Eraser. These clever little blocks only require water and some gentle pressure to remove scuff marks and even some food marks on walls. They even work on ink and crayon and, most importantly, are chemical and detergent free. They also remove marks from most hard surfaces including walls, skirting boards, door handles, switch plates, keyboards, telephones, remote controls, kids’ toys, tea & coffee mugs. Plus, you can use it to remove sticky residue from some labels!

The Chux Non-Scratch Scourer Sponges have been a saving grace for every wash up as they are highly effective cleaning sponges made from natural and recycled fibres. They are safe to use on non-stick cookware and the non-scratch scourer is made from post-consumer recycled PET bottle fibres, with abrasive particles ideal for removing tough marks, grease and grime. What interests me the most, however, is that the sponge is made from 100% natural cellulose, a highly absorbent fibre, ideal for wiping benches and spills!
