Bobbi Brown – a makeup revolution

Just like the clothes we consciously decide to put on everyday, makeup is a truly personal experience that almost every woman has a connection with. While I am drawn to a more simplistic approach to makeup (and by that I mean just foundation and mascara), I always tend to admire the work, effort and skill that goes into applying a full face of makeup whilst making sure that everything blends seamlessly.

One of my makeup woes which I struggled with for the longest time was finding a good quality, high street foundation that matches my skin tone without going ashy or settling into a cakey mess. I also needed something fuss free and that was easy to apply for mornings where I had lots to do or was running late for an appointment. Before my engagement in December last year, I made the conscious decision to take out a few hours of my day and dedicate it to finding a foundation that matches my skin perfectly which, to be frank, I never had much hope for – that is, until I found Bobbi Brown.

After some time, I was recommended by another makeup artist to go to the Bobbi Brown counter which I was hesitant about following a bad experience with a Bobbi Brown makeup artist in another store. Finally, I went over and was greeted by the makeup artist who, after just chatting for a few minutes, picked up the perfect foundation shade for me and applied it to my skin, leaving me with a luminous glow. I hardly felt the need the walk around and let it settle as I knew that this foundation looked utterly flawless and beautiful. Fast forward 3 months later and my bottle of Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear Weightless Foundation is still going strong and I have added a few more  products to my Bobbi Brown makeup collection.

Bobbi Brown makeup has slowly creeped into my life and, I am pleased to say, I have a whole new respect for and understanding of the brand simply due to the beautiful products and my utterly favorite makeup assistant, Eunice, who mans the counter at Cavendish Square, Woolworths. I am a firm believer that everything happens when it is supposed to so I can hardly be surprised that this brand has come into my life at this stage, particularly since it is mentioned in my Masters thesis which I am currently working on. Today’s post however, is not simply just about my relationship with the brand but, it is about the products which I have come to love and adore.

With the help of Eunice, I managed to streamline the necessities simply based on the fact that I don’t want to spend more than 10 minutes doing my makeup. I also wanted to get products that, when combined, would allow me to create a beautiful day look but also a makeup look that would be elegant enough for my wedding ceremony next month. While I am already using the Skin Longwear Weightless Foundation, I do at times, prefer to have more coverage on my cheeks and around my nose which is easily achieved with the Bobbi Brown Concealer and Foundation Stick. We also picked out a lipstick in the shade ‘Brownie’ which is my perfect nude and a serious contender in the “what lipstick will I wear for the wedding?” game.

She also showed me how to apply a bronzer to bring out my features and give me a luminous healthy glow which I am very sure I will be making the most use of. While I am aware of the fact that the brand is not the most affordable, the products surely are an investment and last for quite a long time. If you are in Cape Town, the I would highly recommend having a consult with Eunice as she will help you find exactly what you need while taking your budget and time into consideration.

PS: Two of my other favorite lipstick shades are “Raisin” and “Cranberry”.
