On the hunt for some great new makeup products that won’t cost your entire salary? Rimmel London recently launched some really inexpensive beauty bits including a nifty little eye shadow palette under R200! Have a look at some of my other favourites below.
You might have seen the new Rimmel Magnif’eyes Eye Contouring Palette around on social media and this is mainly due to the fact this this nifty little 8 shade palette is just R169 a pop! The palette comes in 3 variants but pictured above is ‘London Calling’ which contains 4 shimmers and 4 mattes’ and are all quite warm toned with one translucent powder (which works great to set the under eye concealer). The matte shades have quite a nice colour payoff but I found that you really need to use quite a bit of the shimmer (besides the pink one) to get some pigment on the eyes. The second last shade is quite non-existent even though it looks really deep in the picture so you need to have a slightly damp brush to pick up the hue but when you consider the price you getting for 8 shades (around R21 per shade), it’s really worth it.
The Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara (139.95) and Brow This Way Brow Styling Gel (R89.95) is definitely my favourite out of the lot as they just work so damn well. I have been using the brow gel everyday this past 2 weeks and found that applying a tiny amount of the pigment with a small flat brush works much better than using the spooly you get with the product as it picks up way too much of the gel and makes your eyebrows look unnaturally big. Using a flat brush to swipe the product exactly where you want it means that you get a more natural look, can build up the colour and can get a hell of a lot of use out of the gel. Plus, what makes this brow gel even more great is that it contains Argan Oil which helps to smooth, conditions and soften your brows.
The mascara on the other hand has a really big and fluffy tapered brush which captures each lash and leaves no clumps. I also found that the product doesn’t flake off after a few hours of wear and last for a really good time on the lashes.
Finally, they also came out with The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks (R119.95) whose consistency I am still trying to get used to. What surprises me the most about it is that it’s a really creamy formulation and goes on quite easy but then dries to a matte on the lips. It’s not at all uncomfortable but your lips to need to be moisturised (same as when applying any other matte lipstick). I did however find that after a bit of wear, it kind of gathers on my lips and I need to blot it away. The best way for me to wear it however is to softly dab it over a light layer of the super creamy Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liners (99.95) which ensures that when the colour does fade, I get left with a very pretty but soft stain.
So, if you are looking for a few new bits to add your makeup bag, consider the new launches from Rimmel (especially the mascara and brow gel!).
