Summer is finally here (whoop whoop) and along with it comes not only days at the beach, hours spent outdoors and delicious fruit, but also an increased risk of sunburn and skin damage. However, I am not going to rant about how dangerous the sun is (I’m saving that for another day) but instead will be sharing with you why I have been using the Lipidol Suntan Oil religiously for the past month.
The first time I shared it on my social media I got a few mixed reactions where many were concerned about using an oil as sun protection when usually, applying oil before going out into the sun will crisp you up and sizzle your skin. The Lipidol oil however, forms a protective barrier on the skin that not only defends against the sun, but also wind and water and provides an SPF 20 as well as UVA and UVB protection.
I have mostly been using it on my arms before going outside as I usually burn the most when driving to work in the mornings or running errands in the afternoon and noticed that my skin hardly feels uncomfortably hot and bothered during this time. The one thing I really love about it is that it has an almost meditative apothecary scent due to the cypress and basil essential oils in the formula which kind of reminds me of days at the beach and balmy nights spend outdoors. It also leaves your skin feeling moisturised for the entire day without leaving it greasy with a white film like many other sunscreens.
Because I am fairly dark skinned, I am not too sure what it will be like on super pale skin tones but I’m guessing that you could get a light and safe tan with the oil. It’s also probably the cheapest sunscreen you can find on the market as it goes for R79.99 a bottle which can last you a good month or two as a little goes a hell of a long way with this product.
